The HP Omen 16 (2023) is a gaming laptop designed to deliver high performance for gaming and productivity tasks. It features configurations with AMD Ryzen up to 9 7940HS Processor and Core Intel up to i9-13900HX processors, paired with Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050, 4060, 4070, or 4080 GPUs[1]. The laptop is available in various configurations and has been discontinued.
Primary Hardware
Processor
The HP Omen 16 (2023) can be configured with the following processors:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS with 8 cores and 16 threads, 16 MB L3 cache, and a max boost clock of 5.1 GHz.
- Intel Core i7-13700HX with 16 cores (8 Performance cores + 8 Efficient cores) and 24 threads, 30 MB L3 cache, and a max boost clock of 5.0 GHz.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS delivers consistent performance, with a maximum clock of 5.1 GHz and 8 cores capable of handling 16 threads. It performs well in benchmarks, placing it in the middle of the field compared to competitors, and is praised for its stable performance during extended use.[2]
The Intel Core i7-13700HX is a fast performer by any objective measure, efficient in both general-purpose and specialized media tasks. It features eight Performance cores, eight Efficient cores, and 24 threads. In head-to-head matchups, it's generally quicker than the Legion Pro 5 and falls behind the Core i9-equipped Legion Pro 7i. The performance is particularly notable in productivity and content-creation workflows.[3]
Benchmarks:
- Cinebench R23:
- Geekbench 5:
- i7-13700HX: 1845 pts (single-core), 14464 pts (multi-core)[4]
- Geekbench 6:
- i7-13700HX: 2519 pts (single-core), 14119 pts (multi-core)[4]
Graphics
The HP Omen 16 (2023) can be configured with the following discrete GPUs:
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU with 6 GB GDDR6 memory, 120 W TGP (16-wd0xxx / 16-ae0xxx / 16-xd0xxx series) or 140 W TGP (16-wf0xxx / 16-wf1xxx / 16-xf0xxx series).
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU with 8 GB GDDR6 memory, 120 W TGP (16-wd0xxx / 16-ae0xxx / 16-xd0xxx series) or 140 W TGP (16-wf0xxx / 16-wf1xxx / 16-xf0xxx series).
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU with 8 GB GDDR6 memory, 120 W TGP (16-ae0xxx series) or 140 W TGP (16-wf0xxx / 16-wf1xxx / 16-xf0xxx series).
- Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU with 12 GB GDDR6 memory, 145 W TGP.
The Nvidia Geforce RTX 4050 is a nice mid-range laptop GPU to game and use some creative applications.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 delivers good gaming performance, generally outperforming competitors in most games except for F1 2022, where it performed slightly worse. The performance is solid for gaming and creative applications.[5]
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 performs well in synthetic benchmarks and gaming scenarios, providing a solid experience for Full HD gaming. It has a TDP of 140 W, allowing it to deliver high performance without significant throttling.[2]
Due to Nvidia limitations, the 4050, 4060 and 4070 discrete GPUs can rarely use more than 100W of power. So a 120W discrete GPU is comparable with a 140W one.[6]
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 performs exceptionally well, handling modern games at high settings without issues, providing smooth frame rates and stunning visuals. The GPU is tuned to 145 watts TGP, which is a key factor in GPU performance.[3]

Keyboard
The HP Omen 16 (2023) features a full-size keyboard with customizable per-key RGB backlighting, four-zone RGB backlighting, or single-zone white backlighting. The keys feel great for gaming, with no rollover issues, allowing multiple key presses to register simultaneously. The keyboard features a macro key area, but the placement of the delete key is inconvenient for left-handed users, as it is located near the power button.[5][3]
The typing experience is pleasant overall, with decent key travel and a satisfying bounce. The keys are slightly smaller than typical, particularly with short caps lock and enter keys.[8]
Touchpad
The HP Omen 16 (2023) comes with a plastic touchpad that measures 12.5 centimetres (4.9 in) x 8 centimetres (3.1 in). The touchpad is accurate enough for general use, but it is made of plastic, which may not feel as premium.
